Christians, what did Jesus mean when he said, "Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect"?

Matthew 5: 48 you need to read back to matthew 5 :44 It does not mean literally. perfect the point that the bible is trying to make is Matthew 5:44 say However I say to you continue to love your enemies and to pray for those persecuting you that you may prove yourselves sons of your father who is in the haven.
