Does this make sense???

Would it make sense that a girl puts on her facebook account that she is in a relationship with a guy in another school district but the guy isn't in her list of friends? Is she saying that she is involved in a relationship to deter guys from hitting on her or are there other ulterior motives to do something this illogical?
