Need help in history?

When govener dinwiddie sent george washington and christopher gist on a diplomatic mission to fort le bouf to talk to saint pierre they always reffer to it as being led by washington and gist, but on my history test one of the questions asks who dinwiddie sent to negociate with the french. the reason i ask this is because lots of times this mission is said to have tested washington because he was inexperienced. so dinwiddie might have actualy gave washington the reigns over the proven christofer gist.
