What do you think about online relationships?

Specifically Xbox Live relationships: Are they a good way to get to know someone without getting in the way? Or are they a sign of desperation? Does meeting someone in person after talking to them for over a year qualify as stupidity? uming pictures are exchanged, video chatting has occurred and relatives are in the know, would moving across the country to be with a person met on Xbox Live be a good decision?
